New to Rigs & Dab Rig Nails?

So you’ve decided to enter the world of concentrates. This world can be a little overwhelming. Just like all sides of the industry there are many things to avoid. We are here to help guide you through where to start. First of all this can get very expensive if you do not choose the right equipment. Take a look around at the options at your local shop. If you don’t have a decent local shop there are many options online. This post will start with the basics. We will get more detailed in future posts, but this will give you a great start.

Your first step is to find a rig. A rig is the name for the water pipes used with concentrates. Rigs come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re new to concentrates I would keep it simple. A good rule of thumb is that the more bells and whistles on any given oil rigs wax smoking product will just result in poor performance. I would also stay away from anything 10mm. These tend to be too small to perform well for concentrates. We’ll be getting into specific sizes and the pros and cons in future posts.

Do yourself a favor and buy American. Don’t waste your time or money buying something from overseas. A lot of the time the product is very low in quality and may not even arrive in one piece. You will see a lot of products being offered by companies in China, India, etc… offering cheap glass pipe bongs. Just ignore them. Also, you will see a lot of sales and ads for marijuana wax vaporizers and Ecigs. We highly recommend not purchasing these items, especially if you are a newbie. We will be posting about that topic in detail in future posts.

The next piece of equipment you will need is your dab rig nail. These come in a variety of sizes, and a number of different materials. Here at SoCal Smokey we do not recommend anything but glass or Quartz. Taste is just too important to compromise by using titanium or any of the other available materials. However, to each their own. Dab rig nails come in titanium, metal, ceramic, glass, Quartz.

Once you choose your dab rig nail you must decide if you want a drop catch or reclaimer, a 45 angle attachment, and possibly some other attachments that will go with you dab rig nail. There are a wide range of styles and prices. You will have to choose which works best for you. This can be very overwhelming and can get expensive.
