Standard Sizes
So as many of you know, there are three standard sizes for RIGS
. 10mm, 14mm, and 19mm are the three industry standard sizes. These are available with male and female connectors. A lot of people refer to 19mm as 18mm, but most shops label them as 19mm. Each of these sizes have different pros and cons. For this post I will be focusing on the 10mm styles.
10mm Rigs Making a Surge
Lately we have seen a surge in the 10mm RIG styles on the east coast and in Northern California. The central part of the country seems to shy away from these styles, but we are seeing their popularity beginning to rise. With more and more people looking for a cleaner, easier, and more discrete way to enjoy their concentrates, this is not surprising.
Seems Pretty Small
Even though you can find some really nice 10mm style RIGS, you have to ask yourself what kind of use will you be giving this piece? These pieces are generally very small. If you are looking for quick hits and not a lot of filtration, this may be the choice for you. However, how much product do you typically use in each use? These rigs are not designed for the heavy hitters. Mini hits are what you will be looking at with the 10mm. Which is fine, not everyone is into the smoke stack show smoking.
Pay attention to Design
Make sure you look at each piece carefully if you choose the 10mm path. This rule should apply whenever buying any kind of piece, but pay extra close attention in this case. It is extremely important that you pay attention to the shape of the piece. Will it be functional for you? Everyone is different. You want to make sure there is adequate space between your nail attachment and your mouth piece. This could very well save your eyebrows.
Water Line is VERY Important
Make sure you have full knowledge where the top of the waterline will be in the RIGS you are considering. This can be a pain with these little guys. Many 10mm RIGS will have you spitting water. Some of these smaller pieces are simply junk because they are too small for an adequate amount of water. However, there are some nice 10mm RIGS out there so if you are set on this size, just be patient.
Price could be a Factor
RIG’S aren’t inexpensive. Many people will choose the 10mm path for price alone. Very understandable these days. Also, if your usage is not huge, this also may be the route for you. No sense in spending a ton of dough on something you rarely use. You should not pay more than $70 for a decent 10mm American made piece. Do not skimp and buy China glass or you will be heading back to the shop pissed.
Be Unique
Once you have decided what will work for you, look for RIGS that reflect you. I always find it interesting to see the pieces the new people I meet are using. It is fun to find something you and your pals have never seen before. You definitely want to stay away from the bells and whistles on these size RIGS, but treat yourself. The RIGS you purchase should always make you smile. Does the 10mm seem to be the right size for you?
